Why Suffer? Giving meaning to suffering on the bike and in life. When I ride my bike I know I am going to suffer The Question is “Why Suffer?”
So why do I get on my bike if I know I am going to suffer? The simple reason is that I believe that suffering with the intent of overcoming that suffering is a virtuous endeavor. This idea of overcoming suffering embodies concepts such as training, courage, heart, dedication, and love. These are the things I think about when I am on my bike. Not literally of course, but I search for those thoughts and feelings in my mind that bring me to those ideas. And those ideas help me overcome my suffering and give purpose to my ride.
So I guess I bike not because it feels good but because it makes me suffer and suffering makes me look for reasons to get through that suffering.
I am lucky, God has blessed me with many reasons to suffer with purpose.
